Scripture tells us that the child Jesus was taken to Jerusalem, to be presented to the Lord (Luke 2:22). This image of Joseph and Mary, both who pronounced a yes to God along with bringing the child to the temple has become a symbol for consecrated life. Consecrated life or Religious Life has a very ancient history. Women and men, certainly as early as the 5th century, found it necessary to step away from the comfort zone of their particular surroundings, in order to respond to the call of the Lord with more intensity. These men and women consecrated their lives to God. For them, there would be nothing absolute, only the Lord. In a significant way, and to this day, these persons seek out the periphery of greatest need and there establish a life in community. This community life, in turn, gives witness to the claim that God has in their lives and makes them apostles and missionaries.
This is a unique call that is not, by any stretch of the imagination, greater than another vocation in our church. But it is as unique as the many religious orders, institutes, and congregations that exist throughout the world. The Missionary Servants of the Most Holy Trinity is one such community of religious.
We were founded, as part of a family of missionaries, at the beginning of the twentieth century, by Fr. Thomas Augustine Judge, CM. This family is called the Cenacle Family: The Missionary Cenacle Apostolate, women and men who strive to recognize the presence of the Lord and serve him in the ordinariness of life. The Missionary Servants of the Blessed Trinity, women religious who courageously have ministered in countless apostolates. The Missionary Servants of the Most Holy Trinity, the men who have been called by God to be religious and who serve as Missionary Brothers or as priests. The newest part of the family is the Blessed Trinity Institute. Laypersons who make private vows.
In 1997, Pope Saint John Paul II instituted a day of prayer for women and men in consecrated life attached to the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord on February 2nd. The celebration of World Day for Consecrated Life is transferred to the following Sunday in order to highlight the gift of consecrated persons for the whole Church. Come and celebrate with us our 100th anniversary of the Missionary Servants of the Most Holy Trinity. February 6, 2022, at the 5:00 pm Mass.
